Revision: A1

Summary

A software timing issue intermittently impacted the accuracy of the TITAN VERSA’S Auto Test ‘Display Results’ and Data Log ‘Test Summary’ features and has been subsequently patched.

Identification

Affected Software Revisions: ≤ 1.06.6.

Affected Features:

  • Auto Test ‘Display Results’ feature, described in VERSA Manual SMT-07-1037, § 6.7.4 – “Auto Test Settings.”
  • Data Log ‘Test Summary’ or ‘Cycle Combo’ features, described in VERSA Manual SMT-07-1037, § 6.7.6 – “Data Log Settings.”
Description

The VERSA User Interface software polls the core electronics of the detector ~45 times a second to obtain values about leak rate, inlet pressure, cycle state, etc. This is normally fast enough to display any relevant data to the user with unnoticeable delay.

For the Affected Features, a brief time window existed for the user interface to poll and record in-cycle test data a fraction of a second after the core electronics transitioned out-of-cycle, but before the out-of-cycle state was subsequently polled and registered. This intermittently caused final results for the Affected Features to be inaccurate compared to when the machine was last truly in-cycle.

Resolution

Software revisions ≥ 1.06.7 do not record test data as being in-cycle until it is confirmed that the machine is still in-cycle, i.e., the software now “waits” to get full confirmation the machine is still in cycle before allowing data to be used for final in-cycle results. Testing has shown this now properly reflects the final in-cycle readings of the machine with 100% accuracy.

Recommended Actions

LACO Technologies recommends users download and install software revision 1.06.7 (or newer) from HERE.

Instructions to perform software updates can be found in VERSA Manual SMT-07-1037, § 6.10.8.1 – “Software Update”, or Service Instructions SI-TITANVERSA-1003, which is included in software update packages.

Publication Date: October 12, 2020
Revision: 1.0

Purpose

LACO Technologies has been made aware of an issue with the TITAN VERSA helium leak detector. The HMI interface on the unit may occasionally become unresponsive due to undetermined causes. This issue will not affect the safety or functionality of the unit nor damage any user parts under test. The problem lies only in the HMI and is likely due to a software bug.

Interim Solution

A simple power cycle of the unit will reset the HMI and fix the issue.

Next Steps

Meanwhile, LACO is committed to supporting our customers and is currently testing several potential solutions. When a permanent fix has been identified, all owners of TITAN VERSA leak detectors will be notified and provided with firmware updates and simple instructions on how to install them onto the instrument, free of charge.

LACO has been made aware of a known defect in the analog inputs from our PLC manufacturer for your ATLAS product. The analog inputs can start to read significantly off after about 6 months in the field. We have provided a free replacement PLC that corrects for this issue. This PLC has been tested by both the manufacturer and LACO. Our recommendation is to make this change at your earliest convenience. This change will take about 10 minutes.

Replacement process:

  1. Turn off power to system.
  2. Remove the 7 green connectors plugged into the FL0058-1616P0201L PLC.
  3. Using a flathead screwdriver, slide out the white din rail clamps on both sides of the PLC and remove the PLC.
  4. Install the replacement PLC and slide in the white din rail tabs in.
  5. Re-connect all 7 green connectors. Ensure they are fully seated.
  6. Power system back on and test full functionality of system.

This service bulletin affects ATLAS product purchased on or before October 31, 2018 with LACO system software version 2.08 and below.
