Mission success begins long before launch. To help validate large satellites and aerospace hardware, LACO engineered a custom thermal vacuum system that combines altitude simulation, ultra-high vacuum, and precise thermal control to recreate the conditions of space.

The Challenge

The customer required a thermal vacuum system capable of supporting large-scale environmental testing while meeting demanding performance requirements.

  • Test large satellites and aerospace hardware
  • Simulate both vacuum and altitude conditions
  • Achieve ultra-high vacuum to 1 × 10-6 Torr
  • Simulate temperatures from -150° C to +200° C
  • Support suspended test articles during testing
  • Provide precise multi-zone thermal control

LACO engineered and manufactured a fully integrated thermal vacuum system designed for reliable, repeatable space simulation testing.

  • 96” diameter × 144” long stainless steel chamber
  • Altitude simulation with vacuum performance to 1 × 10-6 Torr
  • Chamber temperatures from -150 °C to +200° C
  • 12 independently controlled thermal zones
  • Integrated suspension rail system for supporting test articles during testing
  • Cast aluminum platen with electrical heating and LN₂ cooling
  • Automatic rail-mounted door opening and closing
  • HVC-3500 controller for automated operation and monitoring
