Custom Solution | Force Decay Leak Test System for Body Armor

A manufacturer of body armor required a leak test system to test the ballistic material for bulletproof vests sealed protective packaging. Traditional test method of packaging using bubble-immersion leak testing was messy, slow and lacked the sensitivity required. In addition, water ingress into a defective packaging would render the contents (ballistic material) unusable. Customer requirements included:

• Detect leaks to prevent water ingress into product packaging
• Ability to detect gross leaks as well as small pinhole leaks
• Test multiple product sizes and configurations
• Limited equipment budget

Based on these requirements, LACO engineered a custom force decay leak test system with dual vacuum chambers. Force decay methodology allows for non-destructive leak testing with the ability to identify both gross leaks as well as fine leaks.
